Background
The core message of Run Your Race Co. is just that: run your race, not theirs. This is an apparel brand designed for people who are trying to improve themselves and want to stay focused on their own journey.
The problem: people comparing themselves to others, feeling behind, having self-doubt.
RYR's solution: providing a wearable mantra to help people stay focused on their own progression and keep moving forward.
Initial Sketches
I started sketching logo ideas on paper focusing on Run Your Race Co.'s Key Attributes:
Progress Driven: forward motion, action
Focused: simple, no noise
Resilient: tough, enduring
Grounded Confidence: calm, self-assured
Challenging: pushes people
After several sketches, I built my top three designs in Illustrator at a large and small scale.
This logo maintained its detail at a small size.
This logo feels frail at a small scale.
Bold with an emphasis on Y for your.
Official Logo
This logo was chosen because it matches the key attributes the best. The letter mark is simple and to the point. I used a grid to create consistency throughout each letter and overall design. The grid also ensures every angle is the same which creates power and strength. The forward lean of the letters gives the sense of forward motion while the strikethrough makes the motion constant - representing the constant effort and resilience to keep pushing forward. This logo is scalable and maintains detail well at small sizes, allowing it to be used in multiple contexts.
The typeface Gotham, specifically Gotham Ultra, was chosen because it is a bold, sans serif font with clear, strong lettering. Gotham also has a versatile family with various weights and styles.
Focused Color Palette
A neutral color palette with a strong accent was used to minimize noise and emphasize focus. Black and white create high contrast to direct the eyes while the strong gold hue gives the design a sense of energy. A creme and dark gray are used as secondary colors to help with hierarchy.
